The European Union finally won the battle against Aids and received the Nobel Prize in Medicine.

Yesterday, 25th of June 2030, the EU received the Nobel Prize in Medicine for finding a remedy for Aids after 15 years of research. Scientists from different parts of Europe worked together for a long time and with the support of their nations and the whole European Union they were able to find a method to cure this disease and develop a vaccination. Aids, also known as Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, is common since 1981 and appears as reason of the Humanen Immundefizienz-Virus (HI-Virus). Tumours and infections turn up at the sick and most of the time lead to death. Before 2030 scientist could only develop therapies, such as antiretroviral therapy (ART) and highly active ART (HAART), which counteract the disease, but didn’t cure it.

In 2015 the European Union founded an organization, called “EAR”( European Aids Research) for Aids research, which is set in Germany and receives a 15 million $ donation per year. Talented scientists from all over Europe who are interested in Aids go there and help to find a solution for one of the world’s biggest problems. At the beginning of the year the academics were working at a new project, when suddenly they mixed wrong ingredients together and created, without knowing, the remedy for Aids. First of all they didn’t even recognize what they put together, but when they found out that one liquid was missing, they checked all their lists and realised what they had done. As always, HIV-positive volunteers turned up to be test persons and at the checkup after a certain period of time the doctors and researchers found out that the virus was gone. After that they created the same mixture again to prove its effectiveness and, obviously, it worked. “It was amazing to see how quickly the patient got well again and how happy the person was to be healthy and live a normal life without fearing death. I would have never dreamed of finding a medicine which could cure Aids. I will always remember the moment when the doctors said that all of our volunteers had been well again”, said a scientist from Sweden.

The scientists don’t want to give away the prescription to the public, but it’s visible that it contains only natural ingredients from all parts of Europe. Specialists agree that it was only possible to find the remedy because scientist from different countries worked together. People from different regions work and think differently, and as they did research as a team they tried out some new strategies which they invented together.

The European Union is very proud of the scientists of their nations and they are also happy that they founded this organization. “10 years ago I didn’t believe that Europe could have such a big influence on the world’s healthcare, but when I heard that a remedy for Aids was found, I was very impressed”, said the president of the European Council.

With this medicine against Aids it was already possible to save 100 lives, especially children’s lives, in the last four weeks. If the number increases in the same speed over the next months, more than 1000 lives could be saved in the following year. It’s a quite impressing number and an important progress in history. Nevertheless it connects Europe with all the other parts of the world, as nearly on every continent there live some people who are HIV-positive.

For this reason the scientists of “EAR” were nominated for the Nobel Prize in Medicine and won it as well. The scientists not only received a certificate, they also got a gold medal and a big amount of money which will be used to promote further researches. As the problem of Aids is already solved, the European Council is thinking of changing the organization’s name to “ECR” (European Cancer Research) as scientists will now concentrate more on the problem of Cancer.

Through cooperation the European Union managed to create an organization which changed and is still changing the world and it showed once again how important cooperation is and what’s possible if people stick together as the European Union is doing since years, because together it’s easier.
