Today there was a big open day for a new rail way station in Dublin. It is called the ‘Maglev’ in Japan and now Ireland. The ‘Maglev’ has already been introduced to Japan back in 2014. I was so excited as this new form of transportation uses magnetic levitation to carry vehicles with magnets rather than with wheels. I enjoyed my experience on the ‘Maglev’ as I found that it ran smoother than the normal train or tram that we have and it’s also quitter. There are speculations about more being built around Ireland and in main cities such as Cork. There is also talk about the Japanese making all motor vehicles like the ‘Maglev’ so that there will be less use of fossil fuels and less pollution on the earth. The ‘Maglev’ uses only magnetic electricity to propel itself forward and to elevate itself of the ground. I am really looking forward to the next couple of years…

The news today is that a Nebraskan farmer Danny Kluthe and an engineer called Kevin Kenney are working to use an anaerobic digester to convert methane into fuel for farm machinery. Danny constructed a digester several years ago to reduce odour from his hog site and to produce electricity. He now fuels all farm vehicles with compressed methane from the digester. Danny hopes to run all machinery on this converted methane fuel. Danny said that it would reduce the smell on a farm and it would be more echo friendly and that he was thinking it is such a waste of something that could be used, and he knew he needed to learn how to compress the methane, to have something like compressed natural gas. I am a bit sceptical about this but I guess we will have to see…

The first human clone has been successfully made today in Ireland. Scientists made it in aid of a young boy called John O’Shea who was born with a hole in his heart. I remember when I was back in 4th year 2014 that we had a science debate on whether human cloning should be allowed and if that was the way to go in the future. I guess it is as there is one now. I just hope that he is being treated like a normal human. I do not really agree with scientists growing a clone for someone unless they were young and had a terrible diseases or accident that would destroy their life but if it is just because they are too old and the are too afraid to die, then I think it is a waste of a new human life. In my opinion I think clones and humans should have the same rights after all they were made exactly like we were. I am so surprised there was not a huge uproar about this.

Finally scientists have found a cure for all types of cancer but the medicine is very expensive. I thought it was good to have a cure for cancer but there is still a dilemma: No one will have enough money to pay for the treatment or medicine. I remember when my grandfather died of cancer and really wished there was some sort of way of predicting at a young age if that person will get cancer. I just wish this treatment had been there to help my granddad. There’s speculations about a new blood test that can be done either when the child is born or in the womb where it can show whether a baby will get cancer. This would be a real breakthrough in society, but people are starting to say that we should not interfere with a human life that we should let ‘God’ control their path in life. I’m too sure about this, because we are saving lives in the long term.

The first 3D printer was made today. It is used to print hyper-individualized meals. So far this has to be the coolest thing that has been invented. It was used today at my work place and I have to say the food was unbelievable. I makes just about anything. The only thing is that it is putting people out of jobs and this is causing people to march outside the government’s house. This 3D printer can be bought for a high price and lasts for many years I believe. I am currently saving for one, this will make it easier for me as I won’t have to do the cooking I just wish there was a helper of some sort to clean for me too. As a child I never imagined this kind of technology. I hope there will be more of these fantastic inventions in years to come.
