All my life, I have dared to go past what is possible.” “To the impossible?” “Actually, past that! To the place where the possible and impossible meet to become… the possimpible.”

Now, you will forgive me if, to start, I’ve chosen to quote one of the most hilarious parts of a famous American sitcom, but what I have to write on today deals exactly with that: the possimpible.

On Tuesday, 7th October 2014, young people had the opportunity, thanks to the great work of the “My Europe” Initiative as part of think tank Frankfurter Zukunftsrat , to personally connect via chat with young Members of European Parliament (MEPs) from EU40. The disenchantment towards politics and politicians experienced by most young people nowadays is well-known; we (because I, who writes, is 22 and feels this way too) actually feel these decision-makers so remote and detached from us, the citizens, that we never thought we would manage to get in touch with them so easily. I understood after this experience that what seemed to us impossible, it had no reason to be so; that it is possible to create a direct link and better still ,that this link is equally wanted by both side; so the impossible met the possible. We “met” the MEPs. From 7pm to 8 ish pm, Maria, Georgi, Lena, Vasco, Vanessa, Davide, Jonas, Markus, Lucas, Fernandes, Agne, Silvija …and a lot more, had the opportunity to ask four young politicians what they always wanted to know. We talked about the credibility of the European Union and what threatens its existence, about the measures against unemployment or about the refugees of North Africa; we asked about identity and how it is like to work in the EP. We learned that even the EU40 MEPs want to “look their little son in the face and say at least they fought for something” and that this can be one of the reasons why you choose to become a politician. We understood that even among politicians there are those who try to do something against “the old boys club- where decisions are made by few behind closed doors” , that politics it is not a matter of the “right party” but of ideals and that even a politician can say “I completely agree with you.”. Our resentment and dissatisfaction lowered a little bit with every answer. We have to thank Mr. Fabio de Masi, Mr. Victor Negrescu, Mr. Francesc Gambùs and Mr. Adam Mouchtar for building bridges with us, to thank them for their caring answers and their incitation.

I understand you are frustrated about politics. But think about it. A lot of people have a lot of comfort with you being frustrated since they can decide without asking you. You better get involved!”

This was real communicACtion. This was enrichment.

Someone says he’s already looking forward for a new live chat. What we can say? Stay tuned? Maybe it’s better…WAIT FOR IT…
