I woke up this morning, feeling a little funny as I was really excited. I was going to vote for the very first time in my life. I got all dressed up and ready to go.
It was still early in the morning and nobody was there when I arrived. Except for one guy, he was just standing in there, looking at his phone. Probably texting his girlfriend or something. I was a bit nervous so I walked towards him to talk to him but he spoke first.

“-Hey kid, what are you doing here?
-Morning Sir, I am here to vote. I don’t really know how it works though…
-To what? He said laughing Why did you come here to vote?
-Because every year I see my parents come here to vote so I thought it was here, isn’t it?
-No kid, didn’t they tell you it has changed? You can vote directly from home now, all you need to do is go to the internet and enter your personal details and password on the site and choose your party.
-Isn’t that a bit dangerous?
-Why would it be?
-I don’t know, do we even know who has access to our information?
-What do you mean?
-Can’t anyone just come and hack the system and get access to everything about the votes
and the voters?
-I think they have thought of that before imposing electronic voting. We already pay on the internet, we enter our very personal details, we give access to our money in the bank. And still, it is safe. I don’t see how they wouldn’t be able to secure their site, these people have money, they can pay extras for our security, don’t you think?
-I am not really sure about that, but I hope so, because otherwise, voting could turn into a really big mess. It would even be so much easier to verify that someone hasn’t voted more than once. Is that even legal? To vote twice? Malwares can do it very easily. All they have to do is change or steal your vote.
-How come you know all this?
-I study information technology…
-Oh, so you know that it can be secured and, aren’t there some anti-hacking systems? Like in the US, they boosted their anti-hacking security on state voting systems. I read that a few weeks ago. More than 5000 hacking attempts occurred during the month of August but none of them was successful (according to Delbert Hosemann ). They couldn’t access citizen’s data. I really think e-voting is a good idea, people don’t even have the time to go voting, they work a lot. I don’t even have time for myself lately, it really helps a lot. Besides, I think it will encourage young people to vote. They’re always on their smartphones, if all they have to do is surf on the internet and choose their preferences, it really could reach more people especially young ones. And not just that it could reach more young people but also, it’s so much faster and there will be no more errors in the counting of the votes.

-Yes but some people will lose their jobs.
-And others will create new ones, it will give more opportunities to people like you.
-It could also be easier for politicians to hack their own computers though.
-I think they should find a way to prevent these kind of things. But even with normal voting, they still managed to cheat. They should write the names of every single voter and, if you can’t find your name in the right category, then you can tell them there has been a mistake somewhere. But I think that with this system, they wouldn’t have the guts to do it.
-To cheat?
-Yeah. It could be very dangerous for them.
-Of course it would.
-I think we should make our ideas go viral.
-But how?
-I know a journalist, he could help us.
-That’s great!
-Oh, my friend is here, I have to go. Have a nice day, kid.
-It was great talking to you, goodbye!
-I almost forgot, here’s my number, just in case.
-Thank you, Sir.”
The man handed me his card with his name on it. His email address and his number were also written down. I have seen this name before but I couldn’t tell where. So I went on the internet and looked for it. He was one of the most influential men in the world. I couldn’t believe it. I was standing just in front of Mark Zuckerberg. The Founder and CEO of Facebook, the most used social network in the entire world. I knew his face looked familiar. Hadil Siam, Sacré-coeur de Lindthout
